Message from RIP, the Removing Invasive Plants Program of 
             Friends of  Sligo Creek 

     Join in Saving Sligo Creek Park's trees and other plants
             Sunday, 11:00 to 1 pm. 

Meet at 1617 Ladd St.  to remove invasive shrubs and vines strangling
the park trees behind  1609, 1611, 1613, 1615 and 1617 Ladd St.  in
preparation for a park reforestation project. 
 
To reach Ladd- from University go north on Inwood Ave until it deadends
on Ladd St - turn left and look for 1617 on the right. If you reach
Easecrest on the left you have gone too far. Park anywhere along Ladd.

PLEASE COME JOIN US! This weekend marks one of several fall work
 events to be held in your local section of the Park. Non-native vines,
 shrubs and other plants have been moving into the Park quickly in the
 last few years. With the approval and support of the Parks Department,
 RIP, part of Friends of Sligo Creek, is offering a program in which
 local residents can help in managing the invasive plants.
 
 In most sections we will work on shrub removal, followed by vines.
 When ten or more people
 spend two hours in the Park, an impressive amount of work is
 accomplished!
 
 Bring Friends; Meet Your Neighbors; Get Exercise; Help the Park; Your
 Help is Needed!
 
 Bring gloves and clippers if you like, or we will provide them. 
 Wear full sleeves and pant legs, and sturdy shoes for protection. 
 Before an event, please visit the home page, www.fosc.org for
 unexpected last-minute changes. 
 Events are planned for each weekend except the last one of the month.

 right of the bend,
 near Heather Avenue. Cross footbridge.
 From Maple, stop at park-in on left side of bend near Heather. Cross

 Between Maple Avenue and Piney Branch  Saturdays, 1 to 3 pm, at the
 Kennebec Park kiosk.

 On Parkway from Maple or New Hampshire, stop at first park-in on left,
 opposite Kennebec Ave.
 From Piney Branch park-in is on right, opposite Kennebec Ave.

 playground near the parking lot for the Big Field.

 Between Wayne and Colesville   Sundays, 1 to 3 pm., at the Park-in
 below the Tennis Courts.

 Three Oaks Drive. Walk upstream and cross footbridge.
 From Colesville, park-in is on right after Worth Avenue. Walk upstream
 and cross footbridge.
  
 Between Colesville and Forest Glen  Sundays, 10 am to 12, at the
 Soccer Field Bridge.

 On  Parkway from Colesville, pass Dallas (third right) and stop at
 next park-in on left. Walk to footbridge.
 From Forest Glen, stop at first park-in on right, at soccer field.
 Walk to the footbridge.    
  
 Between Forest Glen and Dennis Avenue   Saturdays, 10 am to 12, at
 Playground off Dameron Drive.

 On Parkway from Colesville, turn left on Forest Glen, right at the
 light on Dameron Drive. Pass the Holy Cross Resource Center, and park
 on street at playground 
 On Parkway from Dennis Avenue, turn right on Forest Glen, and follow
 above directions.
 From Georgia Ave, take Forest Glen east toward Sligo. Third left to
 Dameron. Follow directions above.
 
 Between Dennis Ave. and University Blvd.   Saturdays, 2 to 4 pm, at
 Windham Lane entrance to the Park.

 On Parkway take Dennis west toward Georgia Ave. Second right to
 Inwood; fifth right on Windham. Park at end of street.
 From Four Corners toward Wheaton, take University past Sligo Creek
 Parkway. Left at light to Inwood; left three-four blocks later to
 Windham. Park at end of street
 
 Sections with Two Events for the Fall
 
 Section 1  Sunday, 11 am to 1 pm, at Hillwood Manor Playground.   
 Oct 16 and Nov 20.  NOTE: These events will be held if someone
 volunteers to coordinate with Sally and Lea. Please check the web

 From Sligo Creek Parkway, left on New Hampshire, first right on
 Erskine, first right on 14th Street. At end of street park park at
 playground.
 
 Section 8, Lower End  Sunday, 11am to 1 pm, at the Dennis Avenue
 Recreation Center
 Oct. 9, Nov. 13
 On Parkway from Dennis, take first parking lot on left. Walk to
 footbridge.
 From University, park on far side of Recreation Center. Walk to
 footbridge.
 
 Section 9  Kemp Mill (University to the Headwaters) Sunday, 11am to 1
 pm.  Meet at Trail behind Kemp Mill Shopping Center.
 Oct. 2, Nov. 6
 On University driving from Four Corners to Wheaton, pass Northwood HS.
 Right at light for Arcola. Left in about 0.3m at light for shopping
 center, opposite Lamberton Dr. Drive straight back to woods. 
 From Arcola near Wheaton Library, seventh right to Shopping Center,
 opposite Lamberton Drive. Follow as above.
 
 The Spring Schedule will resume in March. Weed Warriors are free to
 make plans with the RIP Section Leader to work in January or February.
 Weed Warrior classes are generally held from March to October.
