Saturday, May 1 Bringing Back Sligo's Native Fish

Friends of Sligo Creek and the County Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) are co-hosting an historic event as County biologists and Friends volunteers collect live fish, who haven't been seen in Sligo in 10 years, to release at the Dennis Avenue Recreation Center. School groups and scouts will participate in "getting the fishes' home ready" and the fish will be released at about noon and 2:00 PM

Schedule (all activities at Sligo-Dennis Rec Center 10200 Sligo Creek Parkway - Upstream of Dennis Ave.):

8:15 Fish catchers depart
11:00 Kids activities: Organizers from DEP and Friends of Sligo help kids
do what's needed for a healthy Creek - pull invasives, monitor water
quality, stencil storm drains and make a "Welcome Home" sign.
12:15 Fish catchers return and release the fish to their new home.
          Everyone cheers and claps!
1:00 Kids activities Round 2
2:15 Second fish release.

Several groups from local schools and scout groups are invited. We hope the media will be out in force. Members of Friends are welcome to come out and join the fun and lend a hand!
