Dear Neighbors,

Some of you have asked how to get on the planning board mailing list. First
- all the planning Board weekly agendas are on-line at:
http://www.mc-mncppc.org
http://www.mc-mncppc.org/board/agenda/agenda_home.shtm
The agendas are posted the Friday before the next thursday meeting. Which
doesn't give you a whole lot of time if there is something important but at
least it is some notice. Often if you go on the web before Friday teh agenda
is there so it pays not to wait for the email. For example: The re-hearing
on the Blue Ridge Nairn Development is NEXT THURSDAY DEC. 4. The agenda is
on-line now but the email won't come out until Friday and by then it is too
late for written input into the staff report that will in large part
determine the outcome. I will send a separate email on that hearing. (Over
100 of you signed the petition to have a re-hearing on building a house at
the current headwaters of Sligo Creek).

If you want to be included on the weekly email of agendas you must Call
301-495-4600. You can also try emailing the person who will actually put you
on the list: Nellie.Carey@mncppc-mc.org. Be prepared to bug her a number of
times before it happens (at least in our experience). Tell her to add you to
the list but be clear you are not replacing anyone else - just that you
want to be added as an individual or email contact for the civic
association or other group you are involved with.

We need one or more volunteers to receive or go to the web site to look at
the planning board agenda every week. One of the reasons we started a civic
association and then registered it with the county was that development
decisions that affected our community were being made without our knowledge
or input (cell phone towers, school construction, waivers of environmental
restrictions on building). We found out that only indivduals who registered
as points of contact for civic groups of various kinds would be notified
automatically. Right now I think I am the only person in our Civic
Association who is getting these announcements via email and frankly I
rarely have time to look at them much less scan them. It really doesn't take
much time to scan them but it must be done carefully - you never know what
is goign to be in there - a cell phone tower in your (or your school's!)
back-yard, a waiver to build a house in your neighborhood where you thought
one could not be built....., a change of a property from residential to
commercial..... . ANd if you find something it is important to get the word
out.

So if one of more of you who have asked me about this could volunteer to
look at the weekly agendas the would be a great help to our community.

I have attached below the latest from the Planning Board -which is actually
good news - you can now watch hearings on cable. I've also attached the note
you get from Nellie Carey each week.
